First Latina in Arizona’s History to Obtain Radio Station

Spanish language radio KNUV-known as La Onda 1190 AM and 107.5 FM is making history in Arizona.  Mexican-Born Laura A. Madrid, President & CEO of La Promize Company has taken over the reins of the popular Spanish News Talk stations. Becoming the fist Latina in Arizona’s historory to obtain Radio Station.

About KNUV

Firstly, KNUV debuted in the Valley as “La Buena Onda”- in August of 2005 under New Radio Venture. After that, La Buena Onda changed its name to “La Onda 1190 AM”, in 2009 under Amigo Multimedia Inc and by the summer of 2017, they added 107.5 FM signal. However, La Promize Company will keep its current name of, “La Onda 1190AM/107.FM” and it’s KNUV call letters.

Laura A. Madrid born in San Luis Río Colorado, Sonora & raised in Yuma, Arizona has been managing the station since November of 2005 and will continue to operate, now as the owner. Madrid stated the following: “Providing our Spanish speaking community with
news, political and social issues, sports, information in education, and resources has always been important to me, and we will continue to serve our community as we have been for the past 16 years, stronger than ever”.

Not only Laura A. Madrid has over 20 years of Spanish Media experience, but also she is multi-media-savvy and a knowledgeable individual with strong ties to the Spanish speaking community.

What’s new

Changes to the station’s programing started in recent months, remodeling its Morning News show and added an Evening News program.

Female Radio History

In further research of Arizona’s female radio history, Julia Cecilia Cuesta Soto Zozaya born in Oatman, a historic mining district near the Colorado River in Mohave County was the owner-manager of KNNN-FM making her the first Hispanic descendent woman in Arizona to own a radio outlet in Maricopa County. However, Laura A. Madrid is the first Latina, Mexican Born Immigrant, from San Luis Rio, Colorado Sonora. Giving her the title of the first Mexican Born-Immigrant woman in Arizona to obtain the News-talk radio station La Onda 1190AM – 107.5FM in the 5th largest city in the USA.
