Homestyle Food at Ollie Vaughn’s

Hidden in the corridor of shops in the historic Miracle Mile in the Coronado District, Ollie Vaughn’s stands out for its delicious made from scratch breakfast, lunch items, and pastries. Their coffee and bread are locally sourced and all their pastries are made in-house. The shop also offers a wonderful selection of drip coffee, cold brew, and espresso drinks.

Ollie Vaughn’s, which opened in 2014, is owned by former Lux Central baker Lindsey Magee. Magee honed her cooking skills while working at Lux Central and decided to open the Ollie Vaughn’s after a friend pointed out that Magee always talked about owning a restaurant since she was young. The restaurant is named after Magee’s great-grandmother.

Arguably one of the standout items on the entire menu is the biscuits and gravy. Made with a custom blend sausage made with extra fat from Schreiner’s Fine Sausage and laminated dough for the biscuits, this dish is a must-try when visiting.

The golden-brown flaky biscuit tops the gravy that is served in a warm ceramic mug. The gravy is thick but light enough to not overwhelm the biscuit completely or outshine the flavorful pieces of sausage. Add an egg and some hashbrowns and you have a hearty delectable dish that may be one of the best breakfast items of all of Phoenix. The only downside is that this dish is only served during weekends so plan accordingly to try this fantastic breakfast.

If you have a bit of a sweet tooth, make sure to snag up a lemon bar or one of their wonderful oatmeal pies. Oatmeal cookies may not be the most exciting dessert but when combined with Ollie Vaughn’s delectable cream filling, it becomes a delightful and airy dessert that you’ll want to stop for time and time again.
