La Oreja de Van Gogh To Visit Phoenix in December

Spanish pop/rock band La Oreja de Van Gogh is performing at The Van Buren on December 5th. All tickets are general admission and cost $45 dollars plus fees. Tickets can be purchased on thevanburenphx.com.

Debuting in 1998 with their album Dile Al Sol, La Oreja de Van Gogh is one of the most commercially successful in pop/rock with each of their albums selling close to 1 million copies worldwide. The band’s sound is driven by the use of keyboards and electric guitars while being palatable to the average radio listener. Their songs mainly deal with the struggles of romantic relationships and love.

A testament to the band’s worldwide success is the commercial success of the band’s first 3 albums. The aforementioned Dile Al Sol went on to become 7 times certified platinum. Their sophomore album El Viaje de Copperpot became the biggest selling album in Spain’s history and their third album Lo Que te Conté Mientras Te Hacías la Dormida had 3 number one singles and became either platinum or multi platinum-certified in several countries.

Lead vocalist Amaia Montero left the group in 2007 in order to pursue a solo career and was replaced by Leire Martínez. Martinez was discovered through her performances on the Spanish version of the British television music competition The X Factor, created by Simon Cowell. With their new vocalist in place, La Oreja de Van Gogh returned to the studio and released A las Cinco en el Astoria in 2008. Since then the band has continued to garner great international success releasing several albums and continuing to tour worldwide.
