The Phoenix Mercury Defeat Atlanta For Their 10th Consecutive Win

After heading into the Olympic break in August with a record of 9-10, the Phoenix Mercury are now riding a 10 game winning streak to become one of the hottest teams in the WNBA.

The superstar trio of Diana Taurasi, Skylar Diggins-Smith, and Brittney Griner have led the way for the Mercury after capturing Gold in Japan.

Griner is having an MVP caliber season averaging close to 20 points and 10 rebounds per game. Diggins-Smith has come back rejuvenated after playing for Team USA and has averaged close to 25 points per game during her last 4 outings. The return of healthy Diana Taurasi, who was recently named as one of the top 25 players of WNBA history, has added another dimension to the Mercury attack, making them an extremely dangerous team.

Last night’s comeback win over the Atlanta Fever proved that the Mercury have the will and character to compete for a championship. With Griner and Taurasi missing and a playoff spot already booked, the Mercury could have easily given up after going down by 14 points at halftime. But Skylar Diggins-Smith and company rallied the Mercury in the fourth quarter for a comeback win. Shey Peddy sealed the Mercury’s 10th victory in a row hitting some critical free throws at the end of the game.

The Mercury have 3 games remaining in their regular season campaign with one of their games being against the league’s top team the Connecticut Sun.

The WNBA Playoffs begin on September 23rd and if you would like to support the three-time WNBA champions on their quest for a fourth title you can purchase tickets at mercury.wnba.com. Ticket prices range from $27-$72 dollars.
