About the Tardeada
This year’s Tempe Tardeada is the City of Tempe’s 21st Annual Hispanic Heritage Festival. A tardeada is a social dance that is traditionally held on Sunday afternoons. This event is the culmination of Hispanic Heritage Month and celebrates the historical significance of Hispanics within our community. The event features many free activities such as live entertainment, dancing, arts and crafts, face painting, inflatables, The Game Truck, and the Tempe History Museum’s Family Albums exhibit. In addition, food vendors sell delicious foods at family-friendly prices.
Free booths are available for non-profit organizations. For information about Tardeada booths, please read the Tardeada Booth Information Letter.

For-profit businesses can have a booth at the event by becoming an event sponsor. Please see the Sponsorship Opportunities section above.
Become a Food Vendor:
The Tardeada is seeking food vendors. The Tardeada attracts over 10,000 people over the 8-hour time-frame. If you are interested in participating, please call Jonae Harrison at 480-350-8979. To become a Tardeada Food Vendor, the following paperwork is required:
Two $1,000 scholarships will be presented to two high school seniors. The winners will be notified in late September, and will be presented with their scholarship at the Tardeada festival on Sunday, October 6, 2019. Winner must be available to attend the Tardeada Festival to accept their check. Applications must be received in the City of Tempe Strategic Management and Diversity Office by 5:00 p.m. on August 22, 2019. Applications can be submitted via email to: firstname.lastname@example.org.Five finalists will be selected to be interviewed by the Tardeada Scholarship Selection Committee on Wednesday, September 11th.

From 12:30 – 2 p.m. in the Food Court the Tardeada’s Tasty Tortillas ladies will demonstrate how to mix the masa, roll out tortilla dough and grill them. Guests can try their hand in rolling out their tortillas, and after they are cooked for you, they are yours to eat. Thank you to Mama Lola’s for their generous donation of the tortilla dough.

Presentation of the Tardeada Coloring Contest awards
Youth, ages 5 – 12 are encouraged to submit an entry in the Tardeada Coloring Contest. Simply draw a picture of something that reminds you of Tempe’s Hispanic history. Winners will receive a $25 Target gift card and certificate signed by Mayor Mark Mitchell. Winners will be invited on stage with the Mayor at the Tardeada festival on October 6th. Please mail your entry to the Tempe Diversity Office, attn: Megan Hutchison, 31 E. Fifth Street, Tempe, AZ 85282. Winners will be presented their awards by Mayor Mark Mitchell on the main stage.
