Tacos Huicho Has Al Pastor, Asada, De Cabeza y Tripas

By Jorge Mejia “AVNegra”

This hidden place on Oak street behind the I- 51 freeway, next to a liquor/market store is a taco gem. A small spot serving tacos and burritos. Best cheap tacos. I remember seeing it before while riding my bike on Oak Street.

Now expanded, Tacos Huicho has much more seating inside and out, accompanied by art and a salsa bar. Tacos Huicho is hidden a couple of blocks north of the up and coming retail/shopping district “Miracle Mile on McDowell”. It’s located on 1941 E Oak St, Phoenix. The parking lot was full. Always a good sign.

My favorites, de cabeza, al pastor, de asada, y tripas. Chips + coke. They have a trompo cooking the al pastor meat, definitely one of the best al pastor tacos. The success of a restaurant comes from las ganas que le echan para preparar la comida. This always makes for good tasting food. Noticeable with Tacos Huicho.

They serve pretty much every Mexican antojo, because it’s all authentic. I was most impressed by how fast the food was ready. This is probably why the line doesn’t stay long. There were three to four cooks in the back making tacos, each with an assigned station. Then a person putting out the food and calling your number.

Tacos Huicho has great fast service, the food was so good and full of flavor. Stayed for a while because the vibe was so chill and all the neighborhood locals frequently came in to get food.

When it comes to tacos everyone has different taste and preferences. I’m a foodie at heart and the fellow foodies I’ve met are similar. As long as it’s quality food, good service and a great experience. That’s why we have an a abundance of taco spots here in Phoenix, there’s a place for everyone to eat. So go out and try a new place like how I found Tacos Huicho, and support local taqueros in your community. Tag or message me for any good spots you think I should to try. @AVNegra/phxknows@gmail.com

Taco Huicho now has other locations and a taco truck, they do catering and events. Their first location which is the one I went to 1941 E Oak St, Phoenix, AZ
