Try an Entire Culture Experience at Testal Mexican Kitchen

By Ramon Chavez

Located in the Desert Sun Plaza on Grand Avenue, Testal aims to bring an entire cultural experience to the customers that visit its restaurant. That means that when you enter their premises you will not only get to experience the amazing food from Chihuahua but also the history art and music of their indigenous communities.

Testal only offers two types of foods on their menu burritos and gorditas. But don’t let that deter you from trying them as the real magic comes in the filling. The fillings not only feature meat options but also vegetarians and vegan ones that anyone can enjoy. Their tortillas are also made in-house and right in front of you as you walk in.

The fillings include pork stewed red chile, beef in green chile sauce, chile relleno (a personal favorite), picadillo (beef and potatoes seasoned with spices), and many others. Tortillas can be made vegan as well as any filling. The vegan meat options can be made with “Impossible Foods” meat. Beans and cheese can be added to any dish for an extra charge and are highly recommended to get the entire experience

Alcoholic drinks are available at Testal. They offer options native to Chihuahua such as Sotol which is made from a wild agave plant. House-made Aguas Frescas made from chia (Iskiate), barley (Cebada), or corn (Pinole) and can be purchased to go. These drinks are common in the indigenous communities of Chihuahua as they have an intense corn flavor full of carbohydrates that provide energy.

Food can be ordered online on their website for pickup or can be ordered to eat at arrival. The burritos and gorditas are not small by any means but ordering at least 2 of any item should satisfy any craving.
