Helping Latinos Achieve Homeownership: Non Traditional Mortgage Expert George Ramirez on Making Dreams a Reality

For many, the dream of homeownership can feel out of reach, especially for those facing credit issues, financial uncertainty, or language barriers. But George Ramirez, Mortgage Loan Originator with iCore Lending Inc., is working hard to change that—one home loan at a time.

With five years in the mortgage industry and a background in sales, Ramirez has made it his mission to guide homebuyers—especially within the Latino community—through the sometimes-intimidating process of purchasing a home. What makes his approach unique? A commitment to transparency, education, and finding creative solutions.

“I like helping people and solving problems,” Ramirez shares. “Every case is different; it’s like a puzzle that we have to put together and see what’s the best we can offer to [a client’s] specific situation.” At Icore Lending Inc., Ramirez and his team go beyond just securing loans—they advocate for their clients, helping them navigate credit issues or previous denials.

“We’re always looking for the next best thing,” he explains, which allows them to provide a variety of loan programs, including FHA, VA, and Conventional loans, among others. A key part of Ramirez’s approach is ensuring his clients understand the process and have all the facts before making a decision. “I’ve even told some clients, ‘I don’t care if you don’t do the loan with me, I just want you to know what the different options are.’”

One of the biggest hurdles Ramirez encounters in the Latino community is misinformation, particularly regarding credit and loan eligibility. “A lot of people’s fear is not knowing,” he says. “But once they know the information, they open up and feel comfortable.”

He often hears misconceptions about credit, such as the belief that maxing out a credit card will help build credit. “That’s the worst thing you can do,” he warns. Another common myth? That non-U.S. citizens can’t qualify for home loans. “It’s just different requirements,” he explains. “That’s why I always try to tell people, don’t disqualify yourselves – come to a professional and let [us] help you get all the facts.”

With market uncertainties and fluctuating interest rates, some may hesitate to take the leap into homeownership. But Ramirez reassures clients that “the market has always been up and down. You must look at interest rates for the past 30, 40, 50 years. We’re basically at the lowest rate on average of all those years.”

Perhaps the most rewarding part of Ramirez’s job is seeing his clients achieve what they once thought was impossible. “Customers that have come and said they’ve been denied and getting them a loan they never thought they would be able to do,” he says.

Client Diana Prieto shared her experience: iCore Lending Inc. was my third attempt to get the type of loan I needed. The first company felt shady with all their high fees. The second one gave me a hard time for taking a second cash out within six months. iCore Lending Inc. not only approved the loan but was also able to do a 12-month penalty period before selling, versus other companies that required a minimum of 36 months. Not only were they patient, but also very diligent in finding the right loan for my needs. Highly recommend them.”

For those looking to start their homeownership journey, Ramirez is ready to help. “It’s a big decision, so I try to give people as much knowledge as possible so that way they make an informed decision.” For more information, visit his website, email gramirez@icorelending.com, or call 562-577-2219.
