In a city as diverse as Phoenix, finding Dominican food used to mean driving long distances. That all changed when Dayrin “Dolly” Alfonseca and Blanca Espinoza launched Del Patio Vibes, a food truck serving up rich Caribbean flavors and family-rooted hospitality. The name, which translates to “Vibras del Patio,” reflects the warmth, joy, and community spirit that the Dominican Republic is known for.

For Dayrin, the mission is deeply personal.“ [It’s] the need to have a little Dominican corner where people can come together to eat, enjoy, and remember where we come from – to share a bit of the culture.”

From rabo guisado (oxtail stew), to tostones, moro de gandules (rice with pigeon peas), and chimi (Dominican burgers), the menu is full of authentic options, and yes, even empanadas.

“I’ve cried from joy when people tell me, ‘Wow! This was really missing here!,’” said Dayrin. “And they’re happy to see us doing well.”

The support from the local community, especially from Dominicans in the Valley, has been overwhelming. “We’re growing, improving every day. We never imagined it would be like this—that there were so many Dominicans here in Phoenix supporting us 100%.”

Dayrin and Blanca dream of opening a full restaurant—or several. “There are so many people here in Phoenix who don’t know about Dominican culture. And those who do, always have something beautiful to say.”

Dayrin credits much of her inspiration to her grandmother, while her mother plays an essential role behind the scenes. “She’s the face you don’t see at Del Patio Vibes,” she said. “She’s an essential part of everything we do. She’s a disciplined, proper woman with a huge heart who pushes me every day to do things with love and commitment.”

Blanca, who is from Hermosillo, Sonora, and is Dayrin’s partner, is there every step of the way. “[Dayrin’s] vision became my vision,” she said. “One thing I love about Dolly is how she talks about her grandma, and I’m like, ‘Man, I can taste it in her food.’”

Starting the business wasn’t easy. “That was the hardest part—figuring out how to do it. And honestly, having Blanca was like, ‘Let’s take the leap. Let’s make it happen.’ She’s been the engine that keeps it running,” Dayrin said.

And when people ask about their success, Dayrin shares, “I always tell people—if you have a dream, take the leap and try. Don’t be afraid of risks. You just have to work hard and be prepared, because it won’t be easy. And we don’t want it to be easy—because if it’s not hard, it won’t last.”

With a second food truck on the horizon, Del Patio Vibes is just getting started.
