Young Colombian App Developer Juan David Cruz Shaping a Better Lifestyle for the Blind

By Francisco Romero.- Currently the world of technology revolves around Silicon Valley, a region south of the City of San Francisco, California, where it serves as a global hub for high-impact and technological innovations around the world.

However, for the native of Bogotá, Colombia, Juan David Cruz, technology and innovations do not have to be concentrated in one place.

The young man at 27, has managed to revolutionize in a positive way the opportunities for blind people with one of two applications that he has designed at his young age.

The application of Vhista, helps blind people to recognize objects such as cars, rooms, food, landscapes, etc. Everything that can be found when walking the streets or in your daily life. Juan saw that there should be more empathy towards blind people and thatinspired him to create the application.

“I have managed to use the existing iPhone technology with technology that recognizes objects,” Juan David tells us.

“By using the camera from the smart-phone, with my design, the app recognizes objects that can measured in distances, recognize colors, in short, it can give the person a total panoramic view of what is in front of him or her.”

The young engineer is proud to tell us about his Vhista application and tells us the following, “It is fascinating to be able to use technology to improve people’s lives.”

He also has another app called Pineapple Build, which allows anyone to create their own application without needing to know how to program. Pineapple Build is in the Top 3 of the applications of its kind in the App Store and they have added 40 thousand users in just one year.

Juan David was a participant in the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) that took place from June 7 to 11, 2021; a conference where upcoming software capabilities are announced, while users experiment with new technology.

Juan David’s future goals are quite ambitious, so much so that he would like a build a Silicon Valley like area in in Latin America, where entrepreneurs from Central and South America can use technology to create a better world.

“I want to develop applications that I can distribute to the government and academic institutions, at no cost, in order to help the environment, democratize energy and promote technology,” in the words of Juan David Cruz.

… And that, can be achieved anywhere in the world!
