Mucho Mas Media announced today that the four division world champion and undisputed middleweight champion of the world, and Mexican boxer, Saul “Canelo” Álvarez, will be an Executive Producer on the inspirational true story “The Long Game.” The film stars Jay Hernandez, Dennis Quaid, Cheech Marin, Julian Works, Paulina Chavez, Jaina Lee Ortiz, Brett Cullen, and Oscar Nuñez. The film, directed by Julio Quintana, had its world premiere at the 2023 SXSW Film Festival, where it won the Narrative Spotlight Audience Award and received rave reviews from critics praising its top-notch performances and calling it “crowd-pleasing” and “uplifting.”
Canelo Álvarez, a professional boxer and avid golfer joined the title as an Executive Producer stating, “From the first time I saw “The Long Game” I was inspired to give whatever support was needed. I connected with “The Long Game” on so many levels and I am excited for the public to know more about true stories within the history of sports that haven’t been told.” Canelo Álvarez remains true to his authentic self, staying connected to his Mexican heritage while embracing new pursuits as an EP, adding “I’m proud to be part of a team that is sharing the story of five Mexican-Americans with determination, drive and passion to create their own journey. This film is an inspiration for the golf community and the world.”
“We are thrilled to have Canelo come on board “The Long Game” and bring his insight, passion, and voice to help get the word out about this powerful and inspirational movie. Not unlike the film, Canelo’s journey is emblematic of a true underdog story” stated MMM Co-Founder Javier Chapa.
“The Long Game,” inspired by the book “Mustang Miracle” written by Humberto G. Garcia, follows the true story of five young Mexican American caddies in 1955 who created their own golf course in the middle of the South Texas brush country. Despite outdated and inferior equipment and no professional instruction to begin with, they would go on to compete against wealthy, all-white teams and win the 1957 Texas State High School Golf Championship. Mucho Mas Media previously announced the April 12th release date for the Jay Hernandez and Dennis Quaid-led SXSW Audience Winner the Long Game.
Álvarez has his own golf apparel line “No Golf, No Life” collection that is a reflection of Canelo’s dedication to both sports, blending his love for golf with his renowned style.
In May 2024, the boxing world will witness a historic event as Canelo defends his title in a highly anticipated match.
