Gracie’s Tax Bar -A Place for Good Food and Cheap Booze

But Ramón Chávez

In a town filled with cocktail bars and more and more speakeasies, Gracies Tax Bar provides downtown dwellers a laid-back neighborhood place to kick back with a cold beer and relax.

Located on Seventh Avenue, just south of McKinley Street, Gracie’s, named after Grace Perry the owner of the bar, is housed in a former tax business building. The bar entrance faces Seventh avenue and during rush hour you can often feel the whoosh of the cars racing by. Once inside, you’ll find red dim lighting and wood panels decorating the walls. Seating booths line the west side of the building while the other side is occupied by a long bar that has a flat grill and fryer for snacks and sandwiches.

The food menu is simple but delicious. Tater tots, onion rings, cheese curds are some of the snacks available but if you’re looking for something a little bit hardier Gracie’s offers a delectable chopped cheese and buffalo chicken sandwich.

Good times and cheap drinks could probably be the tagline at Gracie’s. None of the drinks are overpriced and most draft beers are around 5 dollars. Customers can also pop a few quarters into the jukebox and listen to their favorite tunes. If you’re with a large group or just want to sit outside, there is an outside patio with mismatching furniture where patrons can sit down and enjoy the Phoenix weather. During the NBA playoffs, Gracie’s has been projecting Phoenix Suns games on their big screen.

Gracie’s Tax Bar is a must-try if you’re looking for a relaxing and wallet-friendly place in downtown Phoenix.
