The Phoenix Suns have advanced to the NBA Finals after defeating the Los Angeles Clippers 130 – 103 at the Staples Center on Wednesday. The win last night marks the first time in 28 years that the Phoenix Suns have advanced to the NBA Finals and a chance to win their first championship in franchise history.
During the Suns’ last Finals appearance they were led by NBA MVP Charles Barkley and had the league’s best regular-season record. Unfortunately, the Suns fell to Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls in six games during the 1993 NBA Finals.
Led by 11-time All-star Chris Paul and supporting stars Devin Booker and Deandre Ayton, the Suns defied expectations broke a 10-year drought of missed playoff appearances. 2 years removed from their second-worst in franchise history of 19 wins, the Suns will now wait for the winner of the Eastern Conference Finals between the Milwaukee Bucks and the Atlanta Hawks to face off for NBA title.
Eager Suns fans greeted the team upon their return at Sky Harbor Airport after Devin Booker tweeted that the team was ready to celebrate their Western Conference Championship as soon as they touched down in Phoenix.
The 2021 NBA Finals will commence either July 6th or July 8th depending if the Eastern Conference Finals extends to seven games. Suns fans can start purchasing their tickets for the 2 guaranteed home Finals games on Thursday.
